Fundraiser to help family in their time of need

(VERSAILLES, Ind.) – Two local sisters have returned home after spending more than a month in a hospital after a crash.
19-year-old Hailee Dowers and her sister, Savannah, were traveling on U.S. 421 when icy conditions led to a head-on crash in late January.
“I don’t remember anything from the moments leading up to the crash. When the firefighters got there I recall asking them to get me out of the car,” Hailee told The 812.
Hailee suffered numerous injuries including two broken legs and would spend 32 days in a Louisville hospital.
Savannah suffered a brain injury, spent 37 days in the hospital, and returned home last week.
They both started therapy on Friday and it will be a long road until they fully recover.
While they recover physically, the financial toll is weighing on the family.
Their mom has only been able to work a limited amount due to her own health issues.
They are hoping to get enough funds to purchase a vehicle that is large enough to fit their medical equipment.
“When we were released from the hospital, it became clear that our current car just isn’t big enough for all of us and the equipment we need. We can barely squeeze in, and having to hold walkers on our laps while the wheelchair is crammed in the trunk isn’t just uncomfortable—it’s dangerous,” Hailee said.
She added, “A new vehicle would make a world of difference for us. It would mean we could travel safely to our many upcoming doctor’s appointments and handle daily life without fear.”
The family thanked those who have provided donations so far and are hoping the community can continue to support them.
“Your kindness means more than words can say, and we are so grateful for any help you can give,” Hailee added.
The other vehicle involved in the January crash was driven by South Ripley substitute teacher Ron Prosser who had his granddaughter, Lana, in the car with him. Both of them also suffered injuries.
