(BATESVILLE, Ind.) – Batesville Singers have qualified for a spot in the Indiana State School Music Association’s (ISSMA) 2026 State Concert Finals for Mixed Choirs.
The ISSMA event will take place at Pike High School in Indianapolis on Saturday, May 9. Batesville is expected to perform around 5 p.m.
Batesville Singers features 42 members and they also qualified for the ISSMA State Show Choir Finals last month, which was the first time in school history.
“Following that achievement, the ensemble quickly shifted its focus to concert choir repertoire. To qualify for the State Concert Finals, Batesville ranked among the top 16 mixed choirs in Indiana based on vocal performance and sight-reading scores at the regional level,” BHS Choir Director Dan Borns.
Borns said qualifying for two state final events is a testament to the students and the strength of Batesville’s music programs.
“Qualifying for State Mixed Choir Concert Finals is especially remarkable, given the size of our school. Unlike show choir, there are no divisions or classes for this competition. We are, by far, the smallest school to have qualified,” Borns said.
Some of the schools they competed against are seven times larger than Batesville’s student population.
“I’m incredibly proud of our students and their dedication to excellence in vocal performance,” he added.
The Batesville Singers group consists of students from freshmen through seniors who were selected for membership through an audition process.
The ensemble is supported by the Batesville Community School Corporation and the Batesville Music Boosters, with additional annual funding from the Batesville Area Arts Council.
