Batesville SRO honored with Exceptional Service Award

“Students consistently view him as a trusted mentor and advocate"

(BATESVILLE, Ind.) – Batesville School Resource Officer Austin Gross is being recognized with the Exceptional Service Award for Region 10 by the Indiana School Resource Officers Association.


Officer Gross received the award for his efforts in ensuring student safety, leadership and being a positive influence in school. 


Superintendent Paul Ketcham says Gross exemplifies what it means to serve with both strength and heart, while building a culture of trust and collaboration. 


“Officer Gross’s leadership extends beyond the physical aspects of school safety. He has cultivated a positive culture centered around awareness, collaboration, and proactive engagement. His approachable and compassionate demeanor encourages open communication, fostering trust and rapport among students, staff, and the broader community,” Ketcham said.


He added, “Students consistently view him as a trusted mentor and advocate, emphasizing his unique ability to balance authoritative responsibilities with genuine care and empathy.”


Gross will be honored at the Indiana School Safety Conference on June 19 in Michigan City.
