Birthday cards requested for local WWII veteran turning 100

(RISING SUN, Ind.) -- Birthday cards are being requested for a local World War II veteran ahead of a milestone birthday.
Dearborn County native George Klopp will turn 100-years-old on April 13.
Klopp is a Navy veteran who served nearly two years in the South Pacific during World War II.
He was awarded the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal, World War II Victory Medal, American Campaign Medal and Navy Good Conduct Medal.
After the service he came back to Dearborn County and worked for Anchor Glass for many years.
George has been a member of the Lawrenceburg American Legion Post 239 Color Guard and the Southeastern Indiana Honor Guard for over 70 years.

Klopp is one of only two surviving World War II veterans in Dearborn County. The other veteran is JC Lewis who will be 99 in June.

Vietnam veteran and Indiana Military Veterans Hall of Fame member PG Gentrup is organizing the birthday card initiative.
He's asking for all cards to be sent by Friday, April 10.
“If you're a teacher we would love to have cards from the kids in your class,” Gentrup said.
