Brookville police chief: Officers acted professionally during recent incident

(BROOKVILLE, Ind.) – The Brookville police officer who was arrested over the weekend has resigned from the department.

37-year-old Brandon Neuenschwander was off-duty when he was arrested after an alleged physical altercation with his girlfriend in Brookville. He has been preliminarily charged with domestic battery, criminal confinement, and neglect of a dependent.

Brookville Police Chief Terry Mitchum did not provide any specific details on the incident, however credited the on-duty police officers who responded to the incident.

Brookville Police were the first to respond prior to the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office arriving.

Mitchum said the officers and deputies conducted a fair and professional investigation, and it was not impacted by Neuenschwander’s connection to the department whatsoever.

“Even when one of our own makes an alleged mistake, we do our job just like the person involved is anyone else. The investigation was not hindered whatsoever due to an officer being involved,” Mitchum said.

He added, “I respect the professionalism of the officers and I hope the public respects that as well.”

Mitchum added that it is important to remember that criminal charges are merely allegations and individuals are considered innocent until proven guilty.
