(OSGOOD, Ind.) – Mother’s Day is joyous for many but this day can also bring tremendous grief for others.
It’s a feeling that Mandy and Jason Hughes know all too well, after losing their 18-year-old son Carson in 2024.
While everyday brings challenges, they’ve used their tragedy to help others who are going through similar things.
They founded the nonprofit Carson Hughes Foundation and one of the initiatives are monthly Grief Hikes.
Anyone who has lost a child or grandchild are welcome to attend these monthly gatherings.
“Strangers came together carrying a common bond of loss, and along the trail we shared memories, stories, and the love we still hold for those we miss,” Mandy said.
Their monthly Grief Hike took place on Mother’s Day morning.
“There is something so healing about being surrounded by people who understand, while taking in God’s beautiful creation together,” she said.
The next Grief Hike will take place on June 14 and at Versailles State Park and you can get a complete schedule and location here.
