Child killed in Rush County house fire

(ARLINGTON, Ind.) – A child was killed in a house fire in Rush County on Thursday afternoon.
The fire occurred around 2 p.m. on North County Road 700 West in Arlington.
Firefighters were told that a small child was still inside the house as it was fully engulphed.
They made attempts to save the child, however, those attempts were unsuccessful.
The identity of the child is not being released at this time. The cause of the fire also remains under investigation.
“These details are expected to become clearer after the autopsy and upon completion of the fire investigation by the Indiana State Fire Marshal's Office," said Rush County Sheriff’s Department Detective Randy Meek.
The sheriff’s department added that their thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends affected by this tragic event.
There were five fire departments that responded to the fire along with the Rush County Emergency Management, Indiana State Fire Marshal, Rush County Coroner's Office, and Rush County Sheriff's Department.
