(GREENSBURG, Ind.) – A Civil Rights activist will speak in Greensburg on September 30.
Joan Browning became involved in the Freedom Rider movement while attending Georgia State College for Women in the 1960’s.
She was dismissed from the school in 1961 for attending a Black church. Browning was also jailed at one point during the Freedom Ride in Albany, Georgia.
Browning will be the featured speaker at the Decatur County Democrat Central Committee’s annual Bobby Kennedy Dinner.
It will take place at 6 p.m. at Heritage Hill Events and the evening will include a buffet-style dinner. Tickets are $35 per person or $60 per couple.
Reservations are requested by September 23rd and may be mailed to:
Ryan Maddux, 225 N. Stewart St., Greensburg, IN 47240
For questions, please call or text at 812-593-1421.
In addition, table sponsorships are available for $250, offering an excellent opportunity for businesses and community members to support this event.
“The Bobby Kennedy Dinner serves not only as a community gathering, but also as a time to reflect on Senator Kennedy’s enduring legacy of public service and his vision for a more just and compassionate society," organizers said.
Robert Kennedy visited Greensburg in 1968 during his presidential campaign.
