DCCF intern creates hospitality station for Race Across America cyclists

She's met cyclists from Poland, France and Slovenia

(GREENSBURG, Ind.) – Cyclists from all over the globe are coming through Southeast Indiana as part of Race Across America.

The 3,000-mile race began in Oceanside, California and will end in Atlantic City, New Jersey. 

The Greensburg Square serves as an official time stop for the cyclists, which inspired Decatur County Community Foundation (DCCF) intern Lilly Corya to give back to the cyclists.

She organized a hospitality station which provides goodie bags along with free showers, port-o-lets, and gift cards to local restaurants. It’s a combined effort involving DCCF, Visit Greensburg and the Decatur County YMCA.

One racer they met was Dominique Brand who is from France. 

“We gave him a DCCF bag filled with stickers, water, a flyer, and a Branch gift card,” Corya said. 

She also met a family from Slovenia who are following their father who is currently 15th in the race.

“We were also able to see the last standing woman in the race, Aneta Lamik from Poland, zoom through Main Street,” she added.

There are more racers that will continue to pass through our area over the next few days, but are able to recharge while cycling through Greensburg. 

"While working the past four summers on the square, I have felt very impressed by the cyclists that come through Greensburg,” she said. 

Corya added, “I love having any opportunity to promote our town, especially to those from all across the world!”

DCCF is providing gift cards to local restaurants on the square and port-o-lets to accommodate racers and crew. Visit Greensburg provided signage on Main Street, and the Decatur County YMCA is providing free showers/bathrooms for cyclists.

Corya is a Greensburg grad who just completed her freshman year at Purdue University, where she is majoring in Selling and Sales Management.
