Decatur Co. students take free trip out west

(BADLANDS, SD) – A group of Decatur County high schoolers are off on a big adventure this week.

Youth to Yellowstone of Decatur County is a nonprofit that provides a free 12-day trip out west for sophomores and juniors who haven't had the chance to experience many vacations.

The trip departed Indiana on Sunday and they are currently in South Dakota.

On Monday, they visited the Corn Palace and Badlands National Park and will soon be at Mount Rushmore, Crazy Horse and Devils Tower National Monument.

That will be followed by seven days spent exploring Yellowstone National Park and Grand Teton National Park.

This is Youth to Yellowstone of Decatur County's first of two trips this summer and each one has properly-vetted guides and chaperones.

The free trips for the students are made possible through grants, fundraisers and donations from businesses and community organizations.
