Decatur County REMC awards $16K to local organizations

(GREENSBURG, Ind.) – The Decatur County REMC Community Trust has awarded $16,288 to eleven local organizations.
The funding was part of Operation Round Up and organizations were encourage to apply for grants.
“Concern for Community is one of our cooperative principles, and Operation Round Up is a perfect example of members living that value,” said Amy Ewing with Decatur County REMC. “We are proud to help strengthen the communities we serve.”
Grant recipients include:
• Jennings County Soil & Water Conservation District - $1,500 for an Enviroscape display/protective case for student education.
• Decatur County Kids Closet - $1,500 for clothes and shoes for students.
• Greensburg Community Bread of Life, Inc. - $1,000 to support meal service. • South Decatur Elementary School Music Classroom - $1,338.47 to launch a new instrumental music class.
• Greensburg Community High School CNA Program - $1,000 for medical equipment needed for hands-on learning in the classroom.
• So Loved Ripley County Foster Closet - $1,500 for shoes and clothing.
• The Ark of Decatur County - $1,200 for drug test supplies for clients.
• Burney-Clay Twp. Volunteer Fire Department - $2,200 for various tools including chainsaws, a Halligan tool and battery packs.
• Greensburg Youth Empowerment - $1,500 for equipment to support Cub Scout Pack 578, Boy Scout Troop 578, and Venture Crew 2578.
• Genesis: Pathways to Success - $1,500 for equipment supporting A Summer of STREAM program.
• Decatur County 4-H Council - $2,050 for A-Frame poster frames to showcase 4-H exhibits at the fairgrounds.
Operation Round Up is a program that supports local organizations through members rounding up their electric bill to the next whole dollar.
