(MUNCIE, Ind.) – A Delaware County deputy was killed while helping a stranded motorist on Wednesday morning.
Cpl. Blake Reynolds was assisting the driver of a broken down semi on I-69 when another tractor-trailer collided with his patrol car.
Reynolds was struck by the patrol car and was later pronounced dead despite life-saving efforts.
He joined the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office in 2022 after serving in the U.S. Army National Guard.
Reynolds and his wife, Alllison, were married in June and were looking forward to building their life together.
Numerous law enforcement agencies in Southeast Indiana are paying their respects.
The Franklin County Sheriff’s Department stated, “Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, fellow deputies, and all who knew him. We honor his service and sacrifice.”
The Lawrenceburg Police Department added that tragedies like this could be avoided by drivers making a lane change and slowing down when approaching emergency vehicles on the side of the road.
