(LAWRENCEBURG, Ind.) – A longtime police officer and Army veteran has announced his bid for Dearborn County Sheriff.
51-year-old Jason Wyatt is a Lawrenceburg alum who enlisted shortly after graduating high school.
“I served a combined 28 years on active duty and in the reserves as a Military Police officer, including combat tours in both Afghanistan and Iraq," he said
Wyatt has served 22 years on the Dearborn County Sheriff’s Department and earned the rank of Sergeant.
He says his top priorities as sheriff would be a community-focused policing model that strengthens relationships between deputies and residents.
“I want to increase visibility and positive engagement in towns and rural areas to encourage open communication and community input,” he said.
Wyatt also said that a professional and well-trained department is of crucial importance as well.
“My thoughts on transparency and accountability are simple; I will have clear policies and expectations for the deputies and jail officers. I will have open communication with the county officials and the public and I will be responsible with taxpayer resources,” he said.
He added, “My mission is to serve the people of Dearborn County with integrity, accountability, and respect for the Constitution ensuring public safety while protecting individual rights and strengthening trust between Law Enforcement and the community.
