(MILAN, Ind.) – One dog died in a house fire in Milan on Wednesday morning.
The fire occurred around 8:45 a.m. at a home on Hickory Lane, which is located shortly off of Warpath Drive.
Milan and Delaware firefighters responded and discovered the fire was in the basement.
The house was evacuated by the time firefighters arrived. Officials say one resident was taken to the hospital by family members for undisclosed reasons.
The fire was contained to the basement and Milan assistant chief Rod Johnson says that is a credit to the volunteer firefighters who answered the call.
“I am very proud of the group that was there today as they encountered a scenario that a firefighter doesn’t want with it being in the basement, but the boys got in and did a heck of a job knocking it down with being smart and aggressive,” Johnson said.
He is also crediting the Delaware Volunteer Fire Department for their partnership.
“The Delaware Fire Department is such a great group to work with and we work with them a lot. Their presence on the scene helped contain this fire from getting worse,” Johnson added.
He also mentioned the Town of Milan, Southeast Indiana Gas and Duke Energy all responded within 15 minutes of being called as well.
