(SUNMAN, Ind.) – An idea that began a few years ago at East Central High School became reality in Sunman this weekend.
A ribbon cutting ceremony was held for the Sunman Open Door Food Pantry, a 24/7 self-serve trailer that provides food, hygiene products, and essential supplies.
Twin sisters Kayla and Layla Craig were high school sophomores when they first approached their FCCLA advisor Brenda Osman about the idea.
Osman helped the sisters develop the project and it eventually was approved by Sunman Town Council in 2023.
East Central FCCLA kept the project alive despite Kayla and Layla graduating earlier this year.
East Central FFA partnered by building the shed as well.
On Saturday, the Sunman Open Door Food Pantry officially opened at the Sunman Town Park.
Want to make a donation? You can drop by anytime and place it in the trailer! A list of items being accepted is listed below.
If you would like to make a monetary donation or inquire about other ways to get involved, email Brenda Osman at bosman@sunmandearborn.k12.in.us
