(BATESVILLE) – The Batesville Parks Department is planning to install exercise equipment at Liberty Park.
The outdoor workout area would include items like a treadmill and presses, and would be located near the playground area. It also be all-inclusive and available for both adults and kids.
Lisa Gausman serves on the Batesville Park Board and initially introduced the concept. She helped secure a $4,800 grant from the Ripley County Community Foundation earlier this year.
On Monday night, the project was awarded a $15,000 grant from the City of Batesville’s Belterra Fund.
Park Commissioner Mike Baumer says they are hoping to receive additional funds to bring the project to life.
“We think this will be something that anyone can use, for example parents who want to workout while their children on the playground,” Baumer said.
The goal is to have the fitness area installed in 2026 and Baumer added that it could expand to include more equipment after it is built.
