Former Franklin County deputy, jailer passes away

(BROOKVILLE, Ind.) – A longtime member of the Franklin County Sheriff’s Department has passed away at the age of 69.
Michael W. Johnson joined the department in 1981 and served as a deputy until 2017.
He then served as the department’s first civilian Jail Commander until his retirement in 2022.
He rose through the ranks during his tenure from jail officer to eventually being named Captain.
“Captain Johnson devoted his life to serving the Franklin County community with honor and integrity. We are deeply saddened by his passing, and our thoughts and prayers are with the Johnson family during this difficult time,” the sheriff’s department said.
A visitation will be held at Phillips & Meyers Funeral Home in Brookville from 4-7 p.m. on Thursday, October 16.
Funeral services will be held at the funeral home at 11 a.m. Friday.
