Former Greensburg officer shot in Evansville, fundraiser launched

(EVANSVILLE, Ind.) – A former Greensburg police officer was shot in the line of duty in Evansville on Sunday.
Authorities say Evansville Police Officer Sam Taylor is in stable condition, however may lose the use of legs as a result of his injuries.
Taylor was responding to a report of stolen vehicle on Sunday morning when he was shot. An 18-year-old allegedly fired shots that struck Taylor and the suspect was also shot.
A donation drive has been established by the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 73 in Evansville.
“As he now begins the long road to recovery, his family is facing unexpected emotional and financial burdens,” the FOP lodge said.

Taylor is originally from Lynnville, Indiana and served six years in the Army. He is stillpart of the Army Reserves as a Drill Sergeant. He joined the Evansville Police Department in March
He and his wife have a 2-year-old son.
