Former Lawrenceburg teacher accused of inappropriate relationship with former student

Alleged misconduct happened in 2014-2015

(LAWRENCEBURG, Ind.) -- A former Lawrenceburg High School teacher is accused of having an inappropriate relationship with a student a decade ago.

61-year-old Elizabeth Schwarz was arrested Wednesday in connection to alleged crimes that occurred between 2014 and 2015.

The victim informed a school employee this past January which led to an immediate investigation and Schwarz being placed on administrative leave. She later resigned in March.

Dearborn County Prosecutor Lynn Deddens said, “The relationship allegedly began after the victim had been a student in Schwarz's class and after the victim joined Schwarz's family at church, it then escalated to a romantic that included kissing, inappropriate touching, and texting."

Prosecutors added that the victim was frequently invited to Schwarz's home when her husband and children weren't there, and also to private tutoring during her planning period. This relationship allegedly continued until the summer of 2015.

The victim decided to come forward recently because, “She truly believed she was in a secret relationship with Schwarz. Now that she is older, she realizes how inappropriate the relationship was and is concerned this may have happened to other students.”

Schwarz has been charged with two counts of Child Seduction and her initial hearing was held Thursday morning.
