(MILAN, Ind.) – Four Milan seniors have been awarded the school’s prestigious Mortara Family Grant.
Dr. David Mortara graduated from Milan in 1958 and later became a leader in the field of electrocardiography (EKG) while also making significant contributions to cardiology.
He founded Mortara Instrument, a medical technology company based in Milwaukee.
Each year, four Milan seniors are awarded a scholarship of up to $10,000 in honor of Dr. Mortara.
Seniors receiving the award this year are Alexandra Getz, Lucas Drew, Nathan Voss, and Anna Herzog.
To be eligible for the grant, students must have a 3.9 or higher GPA, have plans to attend a 4-year college or university, submit a written essay, and go through an interview process.
“Dr. Mortara contributes much of his success to the Milan High School community, who supported and facilitated his educational accomplishments. The scholarship is intended to extend similar opportunities to exceptional Milan students pursuing a 4-year degree,” the school said.
The scholarship was announced by Milan Community Dollars for Scholars, who oversees multiple scholarships.
