(BROOKVILLE, Ind.) – A Franklin County deputy is suspending his campaign for sheriff.
Brad Lecher announced Wednesday that he is ending his campaign but remains committed to the sheriff’s office and will support the next sheriff.
“While I have no doubt we would have been successful, I remain confident in this decision. Pursing a political position comes with many burdens, ones I am not willing to put my wife and young children through as this race heats up,” Lecher said.
Lecher has served in local law enforcement for nearly 20 years both as a jail officer and Merit Deputy for the Franklin County Sheriff's Office.
“Additionally, I will remain committed to my service with the Franklin County Sheriff’s Department and support the next sheriff. You will still see me and my family in the community, supporting events, festivals, and fundraisers, as we always have.
A new Franklin County sheriff will be elected in 2026 as current Sheriff Peter Cates who is term-limited.
Brookville Police Officer Lucas Dakota Richardson announced his candidacy earlier this week.
