Fundraiser for mom facing health condition, unable to work

Updated: May 29

(ST. LEON, Ind.) – A local daughter is hoping the community can help her mom who is facing significant health conditions.

45-year-old Jessica McDaniel, of St. Leon, has raised three daughters while sometimes working numerous jobs at once.

Jessica loves being a wedding planner but has had to do a few other jobs to just pay the bills.

She suffered a seizure in 2024 which led to her being diagnosed with cerebral atrophy, a condition where the healthy cells and tissue in the brain die and cause functional and cognitive issues.

“She has been in and out of the hospital and each time it seems that a new health condition is added to her list of diagnoses, but there is little to no resolution or idea as to why this is happening or how much more it may progress,” her daughter, Valerie said.

The ongoing challenges has stopped McDaniel from doing what she loves as a wedding planner.

It has led Valerie to launch a fundraiser in an effort to relieve some of the financial stress.

“She is in the process of applying for federal disability and Medicare benefits, but it is a lengthy process,” Valerie said.

Valerie told The 812, “I cannot help her condition but I can at least do this.”
