Fundraiser underway for Holton native battling cancer

(HOLTON, Ind.) – A fundraiser is underway for a local ordained minister who is battling kidney cancer. 

44-year-old Matthew Miller has resided in several communities in Southeast Indiana including Holton, Versailles, Milan Lawrenceburg and Dillsboro. 

Family and friends describe Miller as a person who has gone above and beyond for others, without seeking any praise or attention. 

“He let people live in his house several times that needed second chances and had nothing. He has spent his life fighting for what he thought was best, and everyone who knows him well knows this to be true. Ever since I have known him, he has always been involved in some fight or cause to help others,” a friend said. 

The South Ripley graduate is an ordained minister with strong ties to his home church of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church. 

The cancer diagnosis forces him to miss work and also travel for treatment at the Cleveland Clinic. 

The fundraiser will help support Miller and his required medical travels during his time of need.

“He has many thousands of people left to help, so let’s help make sure he is in a place to do so. Please share this story, please help me help someone who has actually made a difference for the little people,” organizers added.

There will also be a Benefit Ride and Fundraiser for Miller on Saturday, October 11.

It will take place at the Osgood American Legion and will include raffles, silent auctions, music, dinner, t-shirts and more following the 11 a.m. ride.
