Franklin County grad serves as official scorer of Florence Y'alls

She is also working for the Cincinnati Reds this summer

(FLORENCE, KY.) – A Franklin County graduate is putting her passion for baseball to good use. 

Joey Eckstein attends every Florence Y’alls game and serves as the official scorer. 

It became an opportunity after she spoke with the general manager and learned the position was available. 

“Working the games as the official scorer is a lot of fun. No two games are the same, something different happens everyday. The best part of the job is watching baseball day in and day out while also learning more about the game from the scoring and even media side of the game as I am in the press box,” Eckstein told The 812.

Eckstein says the hardest part of the job is ensuring that every call she makes is accurate. 

She says the Y’alls offers unique internships and all of her co-workers all share the common goal of working in the sports industry. 

“ This provides for a positive and fun work environment. I have formed many close bonds during my time with the Florence Y’alls and I am so grateful for that,” she added. 

When Eckstein isn’t keeping score in Florence, she can be found at Great American Ball Park as she is also an access coordinator during Reds gamedays. 

“My main job is monitoring who comes in and out of different party areas and group settings within the ballpark and ensuring all fans have a positive experience,” she said. 

Eckstein is a junior at Mount St. Joseph University and her dream is to work in Major League Baseball. 

“My goal is to have a job in the industry of player development or youth engagement or public relations,” Eckstein said. 

She is currently taking a break from both jobs as she is coaching at a national girls baseball tournament in Reno, Nevada.
