Greensburg Elementary's Walk-A-Thon fundraiser raises $38K

(GREENSBURG, Ind.) -- Greensburg Elementary students left the classroom for a fun event at the high school track on Friday.

The annual Walk-A-Thon is organized by the Greensburg Elementary PTO and is the only fundraiser that takes place each school year.

Students raise money to earn unique prizes that range from bracelets and snow cones, to a Color Run, a pizza party or even a bus trip to get ice cream.

The fundraiser resulted in $38,000 being raised to fund various programs throughout the year at the elementary school.

“This funds everything from ice cream trucks to PTO events and several convocations, and we also sponsor behind-the-scenes clubs like the Engineering Club,”  said Greensburg Elementary PTO President Nicholas Gunter.

He added, “Basically, this fundraiser allows us to support our teachers and students inside the elementary school.”

On Friday, the students took a short bus trip from the elementary school to the high school to run laps on the track.

Parents were invited to attend and some students even participated in the Color Run.

“We got to run around the track and when you finished a lap you got a mark, and if you ran four times that meant you ran a mile,” said GES fifth grader Ellie Gilbert. “I think this is so much fun and I love running, it is a good workout.”

Ellie was asked if she has any advice for the younger students who were running on Friday.

She responded, “Just try your best and go at your own pace!”
