Greensburg mom rings bell after beating breast cancer

Watch here:

(INDIANAPOLIS) – A Greensburg woman held her two children as she rang the bell to mark the end of cancer treatment on Friday.

Danielle Stanley is celebrating the victory over breast cancer while hoping her journey can help someone else.

She was eight weeks pregnant when she was diagnosed with Stage 2 invasive ductal carcinoma in 2023.

“Cancer does not discriminate, I was 31-years-old and healthy and did not have a care in the world about cancer at the time, but now it has become my world these past two years,” she said.

She had noticed a lump in January 2023 and didn’t get it checked out until June.

“I was breastfeeding my oldest child still so I put off getting it checked when I knew something was wrong,” she said.

After the diagnosis, Danielle spent nearly two years going through chemotherapy and other treatments. She elected for a double mastectomy as there was a chance the cancer could return.

“I also found out that it ran in my family and I didn’t know that until I was diagnosed,” she said..

Danielle is now cancer-free and is encouraging other women to pay attention to their bodies and get regular screenings.

“I also feel it is important to abdicate for yourself and never let someone else influence your decisions on surgeries or what kind of treatment you want,” she said.

She also encourages others to be familiar with their family genetics and be aware if your family has a history of cancer.

Danielle and her two daughters, age 3 and 1, were joined by her family from Alaska for the bell ringing ceremony on Friday.
