(GREENSBURG, Ind.) – A Greensburg Police Officer is being credited with saving the life of an infant.
Officer Keaton Atchley responded to a report of a 2-month-old choking on August 23.
Atchley immediately realized that the child was in respiratory distress when he arrived on scene.
He grabbed the infant and delivered back blows with the infant’s airway in a declined position.
“After the back blows had been delivered the infant's breathing and skin color returned to normal. Officer Atchley continued monitoring the infant until EMS arrived,” Greensburg Police Chief Mike McNealy said.
Atchley is also being credited for remaining calm and professional during those tense moments.
On Tuesday, Atchley was awarded the Lifesaving Award during the Greensburg Board of Works meeting.
He has served with the Greensburg Police Department since August 2024.
