INDOT continues investigating S.R. 46 bridge in West Harrison after fire

(WEST HARRISON, Ind.) – The Indiana Department of Transportation is continuing to investigate the long-term impacts of the fire that occurred on the State Road 46 bridge in West Harrison.
A parked box truck carrying paint supplies caught fire on the bridge on October 5.
That bridge has been closed for repairs since 2024 and the fire occurred just weeks before it was scheduled to reopen.

INDOT officials say the fire’s impact to the bridge’s steel truss members have mainly been cosmetic and requires contractors to clean and repaint the affected areas.
"Project team members and inspectors continue to analyze the steel members to determine if/what additional repairs need to be made," said INDOT Southeast Public Relations Director Sidney Nierman.
Some additional isolated, minor impacts were made to the truss, she added.
A specific project timeline will be made public by INDOT when it becomes available, she added.
