(GREENSBURG, Ind.) – The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) visited Greensburg Elementary School as part of their Bike IN Safe program on Thursday, May 8.
INDOT provided each GES first and second grader with a bicycle helmet, stickers, coloring sheets, and bike safety information.
Southeast Indiana Stakeholder Services Director Annie Walker led the presentations which included tips geared to young children that provided information on how to properly wear a helmet, rules of the road, how to avoid distractions, what to wear, and safety tips.
“We focus a lot on safety improvements on the roadway and this is a way to reach a younger generation to reach them a different way,” Walker said.
INDOT Southeast has distributed nearly 4,000 helmets to more than 25 local schools this year. Approximately 2,000 more helmets will be delivered to first- and second graders over the next year.
