(BATESVILLE, Ind.) – The proposed plan to reduce lanes on State Road 46 in Batesville has been cancelled.
The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) announced they are scrapping the plans after public feedback and a review of alternatives.
The previous plan would have reduced travel to just one lane in each direction between between Mitchell Avenue and Merkel Road, with dedicated turn lanes.
INDOT says they will still be making some changes which will include a left turn lane from eastbound State Road 46 to Bedel Boulevard.
They will also install a left turn lane in both directions at S.R. 46 and Tekulve Road.
“The project aims to improve the condition of the roadway and enhance safety and mobility along S.R. 46 in Batesville by reducing the frequency of rear-end crashes,” INDOT officials said.
The construction is expected to begin as early as December.
Several residents voiced opposition to the planned lane reduction. You can read more here.
