(SCIPIO, Ind.) – A local fire department has performed two life-saving water rescues in the past 24 hours in Jennings County.
Scipio-Geneva Fire Rescue was called to the area of Big Dam in Country Squire Lakes last night.
Firefighters put on personal protective equipment and were able to walk out to the vehicle and rescue two people.
On Thursday morning, the department responded to the area of County Road 600 West for a report of a trapped vehicle with a person inside.
“Due to high water conditions, an airboat was utilized to reach the vehicle. Rescue personnel were able to safely remove the victim and bring them back to shore without further incident,” stated Scipio-Geneva Fire Rescue.
Roads throughout Southeast Indiana remain hazardous due to the heavy rains that have led to flooding.
“If you see barricades or warning signs blocking a flooded roadway, they are placed there for your safety. Please do not drive around them or attempt to cross flooded roads,” the department added.
