Jennings Co. football coach to step down

(NORTH VERNON, Ind.) – Jennings County head football coach Jason Burton is stepping down from the position after three years.

Burton informed his players during the final team meeting on Tuesday.

“This decision did not come lightly. It is one I have struggled with greatly, because I genuinely love our players and wanted nothing more than to see Panther Football achieve the success we have worked so hard to build throughout our K–12 program,” Burton said.

He added that stepping away and pursuing other professional responsibilities was the best decision for him and his family now.

Burton said his emphasis at the high school level was academic accountability while providing valuable lessons on life, leadership and personal responsibility.

“We worked to strengthen the middle school program and established the Jennings County Youth Football (JCYF) program to better serve our youth football community through flag football and Grades 3–6 tackle football,” he added.

He said, “I am incredibly proud of every young man who committed to this program, embraced the challenges, persevered through adversity, and grew through the experience. Football is about so much more than wins and losses.”
