Jennings Co. woman helps rescue occupants of van crash

ree

(NORTH VERNON, Ind.) –  A Jennings County woman is being credited for being a Good Samaritan during a recent crash.

Emily Rose Atkins was driving near the State Road 7 and State Road 3 split on Friday night.

She says a van with several occupants lost control and flipped.

Emily was the first person on the scene and immediately sprung into action. She says the occupants were struggling to get out of the van.

“They were trying to kick out the windows, so I got a crow bar and popped the door open and pulled most of them out,” Emily said.

She added that she also assisted the elderly driver out of the vehicle who had been stuck.

“They all kept hugging me...it was a lot. I was the only one there until emergency services arrived,’ she said.

The current conditions of the occupants or the cause of the crash has not been made public.
