(BATESVILLE, Ind.) – More than 150 kids had the opportunity to design, build and create during Kids Discovery Factory’s (KDF) 14th annual STEAM Camp.
The 4-day camp gave children the opportunity to dream big through unique, hands-on science, technology, engineering, art, and math programs.
The camp began at Liberty Park in Batesville with a focus on science and outdoor activities.
“Campers designed giant bead animals, created clouds in a cup, investigated colorful chemical reactions, and discovered how everyday materials can become exciting scientific experiments,” said KDF executive director Emili Uden.
The kindergarteners through sixth graders then rotated through a variety of workshops that took place across Southeast Indiana.
Campers did everything from launching water rockets to exploring the science of bubbles, building cardboard creations in a makerspace, and designing 3D printing pens.
"Watching children become completely immersed in discovery—asking questions, trying new ideas, and learning through play—is exactly why Kids Discovery Factory exists. Every camp activity helps build confidence and reminds campers that learning can be exciting,” said KDF program director Dawn Koch.
The Steam Camp was made possible by Honda who served as the title sponsor, Baxter who sponsored the mobile factory and Margaret Mary Health who supported KDF’s Museums for All Campership Program.
Volunteers from Batesville Tool & Die along with students from local schools also made the camp a big success.
"Our camps reflect what can happen when an entire community invests in children. We're incredibly thankful for every sponsor, volunteer, educator, and family who helped make this experience possible,” Uden said.
Construction on KDF’s new museum in downtown Batesville continues in an effort to further their mission of inspiring youth to explore, play, and grow through hands-on learning.
“Planning is already underway for next year's summer programming as Kids Discovery Factory prepares to welcome even more young learners to future camps and, ultimately, to its new permanent home opening in 2027,” Uden added.
