Lawrenceburg dedicates boat in honor of first fire chief

(LAWRENCEBURG, Ind.) – The City of Lawrenceburg has dedicated a fire department boat in honor of the city’s first fire chief.

A ceremony was held Saturday for the boat which was acquired through a FEMA grant in 2023.

It has been named “The A.D. Cook” which recognizes a German immigrant who grew up in Larenceburg.

A.D. Cook was a machinist who invented the Cooks Patent Well Strainer in 1881.

“During the mid to late 1800’s several businessmen of Lawrenceburg discovered a need to establish a fire department within the city and A.D. Cook led the charge for the new department in 1882 and was the first Fire Chief for the City of Lawrenceburg,” city officials said.

Lawrenceburg Fire uses the boat for water rescues and boat fires along the Ohio River.
