(LAWRENCEBURG, Ind.) – A Lawrenceburg graduate would be celebrating her 30th birthday today.
Lauren Hill made a difference around the world after she was diagnosed with Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma shortly after her 18th birthday.
Her name became synonymous with the saying “Never Give Up” as she continued to play basketball despite the inoperable condition.
She made her college basketball debut for Mount St. Joseph on November 2, 2014. The game was so in demand that it was moved to the Cintas Center at Xavier.
Her goal was to find a cure for cancer and raised $1 million for The Cure Starts Now Foundation.
"When I was diagnosed I remember kind of feeling lonely because nobody understood. And now that more people know about this story and the awareness of DIPG. I'm so happy that people know about it now and that we can get some research going and hopefully find that home run cure for cancer," Lauren said in 2014.
She passed away from her battle on April 10, 2015.
