Lawrenceburg student attends 'See You At The Pole' alone

(LAWRENCEBURG, Ind.) — A Lawrenceburg sophomore showed an example of faith at his high school on Wednesday.

The annual ‘See You At The Pole’ event took place yesterday where students across the country met at their flagpoles to pray for their schools, friends and communities.

‘See You At The Pole’ is a completely student-led prayer initiative that is not directly affiliated with schools. 

15-year-old Bryor Sams used to attend Franklin County High School but transferred earlier this year to Lawrenceburg when his family moved to a new home.

Bryor is used to attending Franklin County’s ‘See You At The Pole’ which is typically well attended and organized by the school's Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) chapter.

He arrived at Lawrenceburg High School before school yesterday hoping to meet some other students for 'See You At The Pole'.

It turned out that Bryor was the only student who showed up. 

Bryor was surprised, but not discouraged at all. 

“I hope that my small step helps others to see that anyone can make a change in the world as it just takes a little leap of faith,” Sams told The 812.

He says that his mother encouraged him to go despite not knowing if anyone else would be there.

Bryor hopes to bring this annual initiative to his new school and he is strong-willed in his faith.

“I love having the opportunity to step out in faith and pray about everything that is going on in the world and over all my friends and peers,” he said. “It only takes one person to start a movement."

He added that attending Brookville Road Baptist Church has been a major part of his faith journey.

NOTE: Each school is different when it comes to specific student groups and programs.

Lawrenceburg doesn't have an active FCA chapter but does has other student faith opportunities such as student-led Bible study at the high school as well as Young Life.

Superintendent Karl Galey who said he looks forward to connecting Bryor with the available faith opportunities that currently exist at the school.
