Local group buys land with goal of building aquatic center in Batesville

Updated: Jan 20

(BATESVILLE, Ind) – A state-of-the-art aquatic center could be coming to Batesville in the not so distant future.

A local nonprofit group called Citizens Aquatic Center has purchased a parcel of land in the Batesville area with the goal of building an indoor swimming pool.

It would be located just east of Batesville Primary School as the group says it is a pivotal moment in the effort to build a premier aquatic center for the Batesville community and surrounding regions.

“This acquisition is a testament to our unwavering commitment to creating a comprehensive aquatic hub that will serve athletes, families, and individuals seeking therapeutic and recreational water activities,” a representative of Citizens Aquatic said.

The group will conduct a feasibility study to determine the size, scope and features of the facility.

They will also expand the group by adding an Action Committee which will represent the various stakeholders that will be able to leverage the facility once complete.

The project is totally sustained through community donations and corporate sponsorships, with ongoing fundraising initiatives.

"Citizens Aquatic cordially invites local residents and businesses to support this  transformative community resource by contributing to its development," the group said.

The nonprofit was established in 2023 with the vision of building a facility that will feature an Olympic-sized pool, adequate spectator seating and aquatic space for roughly 200 swimmers. They also hope to integrate a warm-water therapy pool in the initial design.
