Local woman overcomes near death to follow her wrestling dreams

Updated: Mar 12

(VERSAILLES, Ind.) – A local woman has overcome major obstacles to follow her dreams in the world of wrestling.

Bailey McRoberts is a South Ripley graduate who was 11-years-old when her life changed in a moment.

She and her family were traveling on U.S. 421 between Versailles and Madison when they were struck by a drunk driver.

“I was pronounced dead at the scene before I was brought back to life through life-saving efforts done by an EMT on scene,” McRoberts recalls.

She was flown to a Louisville hospital and was in a coma for about two weeks.

“And when I woke up I essentially had to re-age, relearn everything. How to walk, talk, I mean everything,” she said.

Bailey spent a year-and-a-half in physical therapy and often was stuck sitting at home during the healing process.

Although she had grown up around wrestling, it was during the recovery process when she found a passion for the sport.

“It inspired me to do everything I could to get better, even though I was told I could never do wrestling in any capacity due to my head injury,” she recalled.

She was given the all-clear to participate in sports after two years of recovery.

Her dad wrestled for Supreme Wrestling in Madison and she was 15-years-old when she asked him if she could get involved.

“He didn’t want to let me, he told me it would hurt too much and I would hate it,” she said.

However, she eventually began training and fell in love with the sport while balancing work, school and wrestling.

She began doing shows with Supreme Wrestling in 2020 and was able to travel to different shows.

Bailey suffered a knee injury in 2023 which sidelined her for about seven months. It was another obstacle that she encountered and overcame.

“Since then, I met people and went to as many shows as I could to prove to myself that I had what it takes to make it and that I could do it by putting my mind and everything into it,” Bailey said.

She made a connection with Ohio Valley Wrestling (OVW) and got involved by volunteering and running errands for the show.

That led to her getting the opportunity to compete and she made her debut against the OVW women’s champion, J-Rod, on February 27.

“She is one of their top women’s talents. And not to spoil it, but they did ask me to come back and said they’d love to have me when I can come down,” she said.

OVW is the same training school that created wrestlers John Cena, Randy Orton, Batista, and Mickie James.

Bailey competes under the name of Teagan Rose and she is a former Supreme Wrestling women’s champion, a former New Era Wrestling women’s champion and was the first ever woman to win the Supreme Wrestling King of Supreme tournament.

She is making a name for herself across the Midwest and her goal is to make it to the WWE one day.

Bailey hopes that her story of overcoming a near-death injury can inspire others to follow their own dreams.

“Never let someone tell you that you can’t accomplish something. Never let yourself believe anyone who says you can’t do something. You can do anything you out your mind to if you want it bad enough,” she said.

“For any young girls or women, you can take on the world and do anything you put your mind to.”

“And if there’s any aspiring pro wrestlers, you can become a wrestler and make a name for yourself, no matter where you come from. No matter how small or big your hometown may be,” Bailey added.

Her success in the ring is ironically happening almost exactly a decade since the accident occurred.

Her family often uses the quote, “The world told her she couldn’t, so she did” when describing Bailey’s life story.

Some of her family is also involved in wrestling as her brother, Logan Jackson, goes by the ring name Derrick Winter and she also wrestles tag team with her dad, ‘Wildthing’ Chuck McRoberts.
