Man accused of killing landlord in Columbus

(COLUMBUS, Ind.) – A man is accused of killing his landlord in Columbus.
Columbus Police responded to a duplex in the 1400 block of Pearl Street on Tuesday for a welfare check on the property owner, identified as 89-year-old Jerrell McCullough.
During the welfare check, police spoke with 49-year-old Rudy Minton who is a tenant at the duplex.
“While looking into McCullough’s welfare, officers located a deceased person inside of Minton’s residence,” police said.
Investigators identified the deceased person as McCullough and said there are apparent signs of blunt force trauma. The cause of death is still under investigation.
Minton was arrested on a preliminary charge of murder and is being held at the Bartholomew County Jail.
