Man charged with Attempted Murder in Ripley County

(VERSAILLES, Ind.) – An Aurora man has formally been charged in connection to an alleged hit-and-run and an attack on a police officer in November.

Ripley County Prosecutor Ric Hertel announced Monday that 46-year-old Larry Webster has been charged with Attempted Murder while being a Habitual Offender.

The charges stem from an incident that began at the intersection U.S. 421 and Michigan Road on November 19.

Webster intentionally drove into a minivan before running over that driver as they stood outside their vehicle, prosecutors said.

The victim was transported to Norton Kings' Daughter's Hospital with serious injuries,” Hertel said.

Webster allegedly ran away from the scene and was later found walking on Old Michigan Road about a mile from the scene.

Indiana State Police Sgt. David Meyer located Webster and attempted to take him into custody.

“Webster attacked and assaulted without warning forcing him into the roadside ditch, pinning him to the ground, and driving his fingers into the sergeant's eye sockets - and attempted to seize Sgt. Meyer's firearm,” Hertel said.

A Good Samaritan that was driving by intervened was able to pull Webster off of the trooper, police said.

“Sgt. Meyer suffered a broken shoulder requiring complete shoulder replacement surgery,” Hertel added.

Ripley County's Attempted Murder charge is in connection to the altercation between Webster and the trooper.

Webster has also been charged with Attempted Murder and Habitual Offender in Jefferson County from the same series of events.
