(COUNTRY SQUIRE LAKES, Ind.) – A Jennings County man rescued two people from a house fire on Monday afternoon, deputies said.
The fire occurred on Magnolia Place in Country Squire Lakes and the home was filled with flames and black smoke as first responders arrived.
Jennings County deputies say a neighbor, identified as Mike Anderson, went inside that home and rescued an elderly man and woman.
"We are very proud of Mike. If not for him, this may have had a far worse outcome. Mike is a hero today, and we are thankful for him,” said Jennings County Chief Deputy Cody Low.
The man and woman were later transported to a local hospital for smoke inhalation.
The incident occurred just one day after a man was found dead in a house fire in Country Squire Lakes.
“While both incidents are under investigation, there is not believed to be any connection,” deputies added.
