Milan graduate remembered on September 11

(MILAN, Ind.) – Flowers are placed on brick pavers in front of Milan High School every September 11.
Canfield “Buddy” Boone was a 1966 graduate who signed up for the National Guard during the Vietnam War.
He earned the rank of Colonel and had a wide array of assignments during his military career.
In 1998, he was assigned as the Army National Guard Personnel Policy Integrator at the Pentagon.
He was killed when American Airlines Flight 77 was flown into the Pentagon on September 11, 2001.

Boone has been described as a patriotic person who knew the significance of all the major battles and cemeteries in Washington, D.C.
"He was very patriotic. And I think he liked the order of it and the feeling that he was really doing something for his country," his wife, Linda, said.
Lt. Gen Roger Schultz was the Director of the Army National Guard and added, "He had something special -- a sense of duty, a sense of pride and a sense of purpose."
Colonel Boone’s awards and decorations include the Legion of Merit, the Purple Heart, the Meritorious Service Medal (one Oak Leaf Cluster), the Army Commendation Medal (three Oak Leaf Clusters) and the Army Staff Identification Badge.
The flowers are placed in front of the school near a brick pavers that depict his name.
