(HOUSTON, TX.) – A local woman who lost a child due to being born stillborn will speak at a national conference this month.
Shannon Paul, of Oldenburg, will give a presentation at the Dan and Jan Duncan Neurological Research Institute at the Texas Children’s Medical Hospital in Houston on March 16.
Paul says the conference is about Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) and other factors that lead to the loss of infants as well as maternal mortalities.
She will present during the Prevention in Practice portion of the conference.
“I will be speaking on implementing Maternal and Child Health Specialists / Advocates in rural hospitals and clinics and how based on our preliminary results how we project it to reduce statistics with maternal and infant deaths,” Paul said.
Prior to the conference, she hopes to hear from hopeful and current mothers on how local specialists could help them and what they would like to see implemented.

Paul added that Indiana ranks among the worst with a statewide infant mortality rate of 6.7 per 1,000 live births.
“Healthcare is evolving and we get to be a part of that evolution, what an extraordinary opportunity. I am so humbled by the outpouring of support and the incredible individuals I have met along the way,” she added.
