(NEW ALSACE, Ind.) – A World War II veteran and lifelong resident of New Alsace has passed away.
George Lingg passed away at the age of 100-years-old on Saturday.
After graduating from Guilford High School, Lingg served in the Navy and was stationed in the South Pacific during the war.
For his service, he was awarded the World War II Victory Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Medal, American Defense Medal, American Campaign Medal, Philippine Liberation Medal, Navy Good Conduct Medal, and the Ruptured Duck Honorable Discharge.
He married his wife, Dororthy, in 1947 and they had three daughters, six grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.
Lingg George worked at Schenley Distillery and retired from Monsanto. He was a lifetime member of the New Alsace American Legion, St. Paul’s Catholic Church and had served in the Honor Guard.
Last August, George was joined by family, friends and community members for his 100th birthday.
“At the party it was said that it was a proud day for New Alsace as they honored both a veteran and a life-long resident,” his family said.
