(NORTH VERNON, Ind.) – A North Vernon man was arrested after investigators say his car got stuck on the railroad tracks while he was driving drunk.
North Vernon officers were called after a vehicle became disabled on railroad tracks near Phat Guys Bar and Grill around 9 p.m. Friday.
Police say they determined 53-year-old Jerry Doty had been operating the vehicle.
“Doty displayed multiple indicators of impairment, including slurred speech, watery eyes, and the odor of alcoholic beverages. Open alcoholic beverage containers were also observed inside the vehicle,” the North Vernon Police Department said.
Doty was arrested on suspicion of Operating While Intoxicated and was taken to the Jennings County Jail.
No injuries were reported as a result of the incident. The vehicle was safely removed from the railroad tracks as well.
"The North Vernon Police Department extends its sincere thanks to Jennings County Dispatch for their excellent coordination with CSX Rail, which helped ensure the tracks were secured and the area made safe during the incident," the department added.
