(OLDENBURG, Ind.) – Oldenburg Academy students left the classroom to play in the snow on Monday.
A group of sophomores and seniors used lessons learned from science classes to use the snow to create a grotto and place a statue of Mary.
Science teacher Jenny Schneider, who used to work as an engineer, helped the students through the process of planning and building the grotto.
School officials say it was a fun activity that combined their faith and engineering skills.
“It is located out front of the main school building along the road and will be on display as long as the snow allows,” said OA’s Director of Academic Innovation Jason Walke.
The students were able to participate in the project because of the school’s Mission Monday’s initiative.
Mission Monday’s are dedicated to educational experiences outside of the classroom, while the rest of the week is for rigorous academic instruction at Oldenburg Academy.
