Off-duty firefighter saves life with Heimlich Maneuver

(OSGOOD, Ind.) – A volunteer firefighter never knows when the call might come.

Dillon Davidson has been a volunteer firefighter for Milan since 2012 and also serves part-time on Batesville Fire & Rescue.

He was off-duty on Sunday and was attending Bingo at the Osgood American Legion.

“I was sitting there waiting for the game to start when I heard an older gentleman yell for my stepmom who is a nurse,” Davidson recalled.

His stepmom ran over and found a woman that was choking. She attempted to get the food dislodged but was unsuccessful.

“She wasn’t able to do it because she isn’t the same height. So, I asked my stepmom to step aside and let me help,” he said.

Davidson successfully performed the Heimlich Maneuver and the woman survived.

Dillon later asked the woman if he had hurt her in the process, and she said no but was grateful that she could breathe again.

“It’s almost like the man up stairs always puts us medical responders in the right place at the right time for the right reason and he did just that on Sunday. Because, if not, the outcome could possibly be way different and a loved one could possibly not be with us today,” Dillon said.

Davidson was nominated for an 812 First Responder Spotlight earlier this year. Read that story by clicking here.
