Oldenburg soccer gearing up for first-ever soccer state final

(OLDENBURG, Ind.) – Oldenburg Academy soccer coach Ken Getz had a message to his team early this season.
“Believe In Yourselves.”
It’s become a motto for the team who is now preparing for their first-ever state championship on Friday night.
“Believe in your abilities and believe in yourself and good things will happen. It’s something the team has really taken to heart this year,” Getz told The 812.
Getz has coached the Twisters for 19 years and has had a winning record every season except for one.
He and his team have one goal this week and that is to hoist a state championship trophy in Indianapolis.
It will not be easy as their opponent, Fort Wayne Blackhawk Christian, is ranked as the top high school soccer team in the nation.
“These boys really believe they are going to win on Friday night. They’re completely zeroed in on Fort Wayne Blackhawk and believe they can beat them,” Getz said.
The Twisters are led by senior Connor Holden who is tied for the most goals in the state with 46.
They also have an outstanding goaltender in Ryan Hautman who has accounted for nine shutouts this season, including the Semi-State and Regional finals.

Getz also credited the midfielders for their success this season and describes the whole team has a special group.
“Just watching the boys and their reaction after the wins, and just the love they have for each other and the camaraderie they have together has been fantastic to watch,”
The Twisters will play in the Class 1A State Final at 6 p.m. Friday and tickets are available by clicking here.
