Oldenburg Sisters to break ground on senior housing complex

(OLDENBURG, Ind.) – The Sisters of St. Francis in Oldenburg will hold a groundbreaking ceremony for Spires Senior Village on Wednesday, July 1.

The senior housing complex will be in Theresa and Olivia Halls and will feature 67 one-bedroom apartments.

It’s in partnership with RDOOR Development Cooperation who has received $21 million of investment from the Low-Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC), Historic Tax Credit, and HUD 202 programs.

Eligible residents must be at least 62-years-old, pass a background and credit check and be income-qualified for all but five market-rate apartments.

The former chapel of Olivia Hall will also become an Adult Day Care Center operated by Catholic Charities.

“Open to members of the public, the center will provide valuable services and support for older adults and their families, further strengthening the community-centered mission of the project,” said marketing specialist Melinda Starkey.

The groundbreaking ceremony will be held in front of Theresa Hall on Vine Street at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday.

It's expected to be complete by late 2027 and you can get more information here.

The project did receive backlash from Oldenburg residents last year who fear the housing complex could change the dynamics of the town. You can watch that story by clicking this link.
